Roofing grants in Laval: where things stand in 2026

A Laval owner looking for a grant to replace their roof finds little in October 2026. Several well-known programs are closed, suspended, or do not apply to Laval. What remains concerns roof insulation. The City also has a program for heritage buildings. The help covers a share of the eligible costs for a building listed in the City's heritage inventory, and the application is made before the work.

01

On the City of Laval's side

The City publishes the list of its programs and grants. Read on October 8, 2026, this list contains nothing for the roof of an ordinary residence. It contains nothing either for white or green roofs, or for gutters. This is the state of the list on that day.

One line of the list does touch roofs. The Programme de revitalisation des immeubles patrimoniaux (the City's heritage building revitalization program) is presented as financial help of up to $35,000 to renovate or restore a heritage building. The City has published examples of metal roofs redone with this help. The program targets buildings identified in the City's heritage inventory. According to the City, work done before it accepts the application is not eligible.

You may have come across the name RénoPlex in your searches. It is a City of Montréal program, and Laval's list shows no trace of it.

For an ordinary residence, the City's list contains nothing that reduces roof replacement cost. The budget is built on the quotes. Help, when there is any, comes afterward.

02

Two Quebec programs that do not apply here

  • RénoRégion (a Quebec renovation program). The Government of Quebec's website names the cities of Gatineau and Laval among the ineligible territories.
  • Rénovation Québec (another Quebec renovation program). The same website states that the program has been temporarily suspended since April 1, 2025.

Both mentions were found on pages dated July 31, 2026.

03

In Ottawa, two closed doors

According to the Natural Resources Canada website, the Subvention canadienne pour des maisons plus vertes (the Canada Greener Homes Grant) is closed. The Prêt canadien pour des maisons plus vertes (the Canada Greener Homes Loan) is closed too: its funds are fully committed.

04

What remains: roof insulation

Two programs are still open, and neither pays for shingles or a membrane.

Rénoclimat, from the Government of Quebec (Quebec's energy-efficient renovation program). According to the Government of Quebec's website, it targets roof insulation, not the roof covering, and it was changed on October 1, 2026. In the days that followed, the official pages did not all show the same amounts. This site gives none.

LogisVert, from Hydro-Québec (Hydro-Québec's home energy efficiency program). According to Hydro-Québec's page, the program offers a $1,500 grant for roof insulation and air sealing, done together. The same page sets conditions, including a home heated mainly with electricity.

05

Taxes, another question

A grant and a tax deduction are two different things. The roof of a building that earns rent is not treated like the roof of the house you live in. This subject is for an accountant.

06

The order of the steps

  • Read the conditions on the program's official page before setting the job date. A program may require a step before the work.
  • Give these conditions to the roofer and ask whether their quote meets them.
  • Keep the quotes, the invoices and photos taken before and after.
  • If someone else fills in the application for you, reread what they declare in your name.

Programs change quickly. Everything above was read on October 8, 2026 and must be confirmed before it goes into a budget.
