Insulation and roofing: two jobs
Neither program pays for shingles or a membrane. Both are concerned with the heat that the roof lets escape. Replacing the roofing without touching the insulation qualifies for nothing.
The two jobs do overlap. When a flat roof is redone, the insulation goes under the new membrane. On a sloped roof, a roof replacement is the time to review attic insulation and ventilation. These programs are among the grants and financial help for roofing, even though they do not pay for the roof.
Rénoclimat: a program that has just changed
According to the Government of Quebec's website, Rénoclimat targets roof insulation, not the roof covering, and it was changed on October 1, 2026.
In the following week, the government's pages did not all give the same figures. One presented the new amounts, another still showed a different set. According to the Government of Quebec's website, a transition period is planned between the program's old terms and the new ones. None of these figures is repeated on this page.
Three things should be read on the official page, or asked of the program:
- the amount that applies to your type of dwelling
- whether your file falls under the rules from before or after October 1, 2026
- the steps required before work begins
Before the change, the program's page required an energy evaluation before the work and another one after. The page on what's new, read on October 6, 2026, describes the pre-work evaluation as recommended but optional. Have the rule that applies to your file confirmed before letting a roofer start.
LogisVert, from Hydro-Québec
According to Hydro-Québec's page, LogisVert offers a $1,500 grant for roof insulation and air sealing, with the two jobs counted together. The same page sets conditions.
- The insulation must reach an RSI value of 8.8, or R 50.
- The house must be heated mainly with electricity.
- The work requires a 7.0 licence from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ, Quebec's building authority).
This list is not complete. Reread the conditions at the source before planning anything.
According to Hydro-Québec, the program does not involve any telephone solicitation or door-to-door sales.
What to tell the roofer
Say when you request the quote that you are aiming for insulation help. Three points are then settled in writing.
- The insulation value to reach, as set by the program.
- Who installs the insulation, and with what licence.
- The order of the steps, if the program requires a visit before the work.
Do not go up to check the insulation yourself. Look from the attic hatch, without going in, and only if it can be reached without climbing. If the insulation looks like vermiculite, do not touch it: it may contain asbestos.
